Hey, I’m Kaila!

I am a photographer, plus-sized hiker and explorer based in the Northwest Territories. I grew up on a small gulf island off the coast of Vancouver Island BC. I have always loved spending as much time as possible outdoors. When I moved to Prince George BC with my family, that’s when and where my love for photography blossomed into what it is today.

My photos have been featured in Canadian Geographic Magazine, Tourism Prince George Visitor Guides, Newspapers, Northern BC Backroad Mapbooks, Explore Magazine, and Canadian Geographic’s Annual Instagram Book twice. I am also a Backroad Mapbooks Ambassador.

I started the Instagram account and community, Fat Wander Babes in November 2019 to highlight plus size women doing wander babe type things in the outdoors or travel industry.

In my free time I can be found chasing waterfalls, driving down remote roads, hiking up mountains, camping, and catching sunrises at glaciers.

I love using my photography and voice to inspire people of all shapes and sizes to get outside and enjoy what nature has to offer.

When I am not outside exploring, I’m at my full-time job as an HR Officer Safety and Training for the City of Yellowknife.
